This is a block and tackle balancer with a shoe. There are separate sash balancers for the upper and lower sash. Andersen made changes to the balanace design in November 2016. When replacing balances on windows before 2016 you'll need to order two. Note: This balancer may work on either Tilt Wash (DC) units
