Antique Early Victorian 20ct Heavily Gold Cased Yellow Gold Lorgnette Circa 1820-30’s Wide at 8mm throughout givingA lorgnette is a pair of spectacles (glasses) mounted on a handle. The word comes from the French lorgne which means to take a sidelong look at. Lorngettes were invented in England by George Adams circa 1770 and remained popular into the early 1800s when more elaborate forms were created. This very fine example dates to the late Georgian to early Victorian era and is designed as a sprung, pull down release lorgnette which is in prefect working order.
